Pre-Notification Process

You may be wondering what a Pre-Notification is and why it is crucial to your Membership. A Pre-Notification (or Pre-Note for short) is: “A notification of a medical procedure as outlined in the Guidelines that is approved for Sharing prior to the medical procedure taking place.”

The Pre-Notification Process

Here are a few key points about this process: 

  1. Pre-Notes ensure your medical event is eligible for sharing before your office visit or procedure. The Pre-Notification process ensures a straightforward experience for you and allows our team to work directly with your Provider before your visit.  
  2. Pre-Notifications are required for specific medical events like surgery, MRIs, or OB/GYN services. For a complete list of medical events requiring a Pre-Notification, see the back of your Member Card or the Pre-Notification section of the Sharing Guidelines. 
  3. Pre-Notifications must be submitted no more than 60 days before your upcoming appointment or procedure. 
  4. You can submit a ‘Pre-Notification’ post on the ShareStream in the Member Care Portal or call us at 844-313-4999 to get the process started. Once the Pre-Notification is approved, you will receive a confirmation email.

Note: In the case of an emergency or maternity admission, a Pre-Notification must be submitted within 48 hours of admission or on the next business day after admission.
